So, my first brew of the season is bottled.

It's something I'm calling the Mr. Hughes Special Bitter, because I had intended to make a clone of the Sarah Hughes Ruby Mild, but discovered that the recipe I had was...fairly imprecise, leading me to question some of the ingredient choices. So I punted and decided to make a bitter instead.
(I have a boatload of crystal, because the Sarah Hughes recipe calls for 1.6 lbs)

Full boil

1 lb unspecified Crystal (50-70; the pre-milled from beer-wine.com)
4.1 lbs Light DME

1 oz Goldings at 90 min
1.5 oz fuggles at 30
.5 oz fuggles at 10
Whirlfloc

(Had I to do it over again, I would have done three fuggles editions, .5 at 30, .75 at 10, .75 at flame off)

I made a 1.5 starter of WLP 002 and pitched around 65 degrees, along with some yeast nutrient

Active fermentation started in about 3 hours, and lasted about 4 days. I let it sit for a few more days to settle out and complete, and bottled on day 8

OG 1.042, TG 1.012

It doesn't suck, at bottling. We'll see how it does after a couple of weeks of aging.
